My Orphan/Adoption Ministry Passion: It has been my experience that many people do not really begin thinking about adoption theologically until they themselves are involved in adopting (or at least considering adopting) a child. Very often, the consideration to adopt a child precedes the consideration of the truth that God has graciously adopted us to be His children.
So is this a problem? Of course not. It’s natural and right to long for a child, and many people choose adoption for the same reason that couples bear children: in order to be parents. But for all those who are adopting - and have adopted - we desire to enrich your understanding of this act of love by showing how it relates to the theological concept of adoption.
Our goal at Carolina Hope Christian Adoption Agency, and this is my primary focus as Carolina Hope’s Ministry Outreach Coordinator, is take this vision to adoptive families and to people who are not yet considering adoption. We want Christians who might not otherwise think about adopting a child to reflect on adoption theologically (i.e. God adopting us as His children).
Why is this our goal? First, because we are convinced that the more we think about God’s gracious work of adopting children into His family, the more we will see and appreciate His glory, grace, beauty, love, etc. Adoption is first about the glorious God of the universe coming to profoundly needy people in the person of His Son to give us the adoption as sons (Galatians 4:5; Ephesians 1:5). When we grow in our understanding of who this God of grace is and what He has done to adopt us through Jesus Christ, we will find our love for and pursuit of Him steadily increasing. So, ultimately, we want to see people grow in their enjoyment of God Himself.
Second, if people better understand God’s work of adoption, they will find themselves joyfully compelled to extend this same kind of compassion to orphans, both here and abroad. Christians who love the wonderful doctrine of adoption will become increasingly passionate about “visiting orphans in their affliction” (James 1:27), whether through short-term mission efforts, adopting a child, or assisting others in the adoption process.
I have found that understanding God’s love in adoption has grown me as a Christian and also as a father - both to my adopted sons and to my biological children.

Laura Beauvais-Godwin, the director of the agency, and her husband Ray, an adoption attorney, have written the book on adoption. It’s the best resource on adoption out there.
Here’s a blog article I wrote on what orphan ministry involves according to James 1:27 and the Grand Story of Redemption: Orphans, Adoption, and Fuling, China (James 1:27)

I would like to introduce our ministry to yours.
Food for Orphans is feeding orphans in Asia, Africa, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. We seek out and evaluate new orphan care projects that need assistance in providing food to hungry orphans. Our goal is to make sure that every orphan receives at least one nutritious meal per day.
I just returned from the Dominican Republic where I visited many orphanages, including an orphanage just for orphans with AIDS. I also visited the children living in the city dump (we are evaluating an opportunity to feed the children there).
As a member of the Christian Alliance for Orphans (along with Focus on the Family, Family Life, and others), I invite you to contact me to discuss opportunities to engage your members in a meaningful ministry outreach. I will also be at this year’s summit in Florida in May.
I would appreciate it if you could place us as a link on your websites and blogs, as we are a Christian OrphanCare Provider.
Thank you.

Dear Friends and brethrens in Christ,
Following my visit to your website, I am writing to introduce our ministry, New Hope Africa children Ministries (www.newhopeafricanchildren.org) and share a prayer request with you. Our prayer is to get a ministry that feels called to minister to orphans and vulnerable children in Africa. We are seeking for a ministry with the desire to partner with our ministry in the ministry of supporting orphans and vulnerable children in Uganda.
Uganda is home to 2.3 million orphans and millions more vulnerable children. Ugandan children living in poverty–even those with parents still living–rarely attend school, eat more than once a day, sleep in their own bed, or have access to basic medical care. New Hope Africa Children Ministries provides nutritional, educational, and medical support to 67 AIDS orphans and vulnerable children.
New Hope is a small, non – denominational grassroots Christian charity based in Busia, Uganda, East Africa. Founded in 2003 by a Ugandan couple, Ken and Suzan Mulago, motivated by Christ’s love and compassion for the children suffering. New Hope now cares for sixty-seven needy children. New Hope serves some of East Africa’s most vulnerable children by providing nutritional, educational, medical and psychosocial support. Though we focus on meeting the immediate needs of the children, our ultimate goal is to take these young victims of AIDS and poverty and forge them into well-educated leaders for Africa’s future.
New Hope was founded in response to plight of Uganda’s 2.3 million orphans and vulnerable children caught up in the HIV/AIDS crisis and extreme poverty. Without an adequate network of support from the government or extended family, most of these children are forced into child labor, sex trafficking, early marriage for the girls or life as a street kid for the boys.
The AIDS crisis–and with it the orphan crisis–is particularly acute in Busia Town Council, where New Hope is located. The acuteness of the AIDS crisis in Busia is due to the district’s position as a major cross-border trading center. The trans-African highway, which extends from the port city of Mombassa in Kenya into northern and western Africa, cuts directly through Busia Town Council. An HIV corridor was created along this highway as truck drivers camped from town to town and abetted the spread of HIV/AIDS through the use of prostitutes (sex workers).
Our mission is to alleviate the suffering of these children by providing them food, healthcare, clothing, shelter, an excellent education, a hopeful future and, most importantly, the opportunity to enjoy the childhood which disease and poverty almost stole from them.
Our vision We ultimately seek to train these young victims of poverty and disease into well-educated men and women equipped with the character and leadership skills necessary to lift Uganda and all of Africa from the depths of civil strife and massive poverty.
